Brandenkopf – Oberharmersbach, Zell, Fischerbach, Hausach, Oberwolfach

The ”Brandenkopf” – the king of our local mountains. The “Brandenkopf” is known amongst experts as one of the most beautiful mountains in the Black Forest when it comes to the view. It is 941 metres above sea level and it stands high and mighty between the Kinzig, Harmersbach, Rench and Wolf Valleys.

The panorama from the observation tower, which was built in 1927, is quite overwhelming. You can look across the Black Forest from the Feldberg to the Hornisgrinde. Depending on how good the visibility is you can see in all directions and catch a glimpse of the Rhine Valley, the Vosges Mountains, the River Neckar and Danube with the hilly tract of Wuerttemberg standing high in the background. More often than not you can get a good view of the snow-covered Alps from the Zugspitze to the Montblanc. Next to the sandstone tower there is a hostel and a cosy restaurant. There are also a number of footpaths, some of them suitable for Nordic walking and mountain bikes. A walk in the snow along special “snowshoe” footpaths is something you will never forget.
