Hansjakob Chapel in Hofstetten
Hofstetten, where the priest, Black Forest author and politician Heinrich Hansjakob (1837-1916) is buried, takes pride in being referred to as the “Hansjakob village”. It takes even more pride in being referred to as “paradise”, a name given to it by Hansjakob himself. He had his tomb and chapel built up on the “Brand”, a small hillock from which you can see as far as Halsach, according to plans drawn up by Max Meckel, the archbishop’s master-builder. He was buried there on 25th June, 1916. The famous Freiburger painter Professor Fritz Geiges made the three stained-glass windows in the chapel. The chapel and tomb are particularly popular with innumerable Hansjakob friends from home and abroad.
