Historic Town Centre Haslach

Haslach is a very old town. The first settlement goes as far back as the 1st century. Haslach came into its own during the 13th century when it became the centre of the Black Forest silver-mining region. At that time Haslach was on par with Strasbourg as far as taxes paid were concerned. Haslach slowly developed into a market town as from the 17th century. The wide roads and market squares are still as they were then and, together with the narrow alleyways, give Haslach a certain flair. This led to the fact that in 1978 the whole of Haslach’s historic town centre was put under trust. A number of wells and small monuments all go to round off the picture.

Haslach is a member of the “Deutsche Fachwerkstrasse”. Haslach is still an important market and trading town. It has to this day over 100 market days per year. This includes the Saturday market as well as a number of agricultural markets, annual fairs, small animal markets, summer markets, special shows, antique and flea markets (a list of these markets can be obtained through the tourist office). There are a number of small shops, pubs, cafés, bistros and restaurants which make a stroll around the historic town centre, which is also to some extent free from traffic, a time to remember.
