Church of the Holy Cross in Steinach
One of the most beautiful baroque style churches and the only one in the Kinzig Valley with a bulbous spire. The foundation of the spire goes back to the year 1150. The one Gothic style item that has survived is the tabernacle (1480) on the ground floor of the spire. The parish church as it stands today dates back to 1750. A number of interesting things inside are, among others, the high altar, the two altars on either side, a painting depicting “The Lord’s Prayer” and a pietà next to the pulpit dating back to the Middle Ages. Some of the beautiful sculptures are the work of Joseph Kaltenbach. The church is at its best since its last major renovation in 1994/1995. Splendid chandeliers then replaced the simple light fittings.
