Stained-Glass Church Window – “Emil Wachter” in Berghaupten

Berghaupten is a small wine-growing village on the banks of the River Kinzig and was first mentioned in 1277. St. George’s Church has 12 windows which were designed by an artist from Karlsruhe who name was Emil Wachter. The pictures represent parables from the Bible, including “The Five Talents”. In the chancel there is a monumental picture which is twelve metres high and five metres wide and is entitled “Hordes of Angels”.

Berghaupten has a number of other attractions, such as the chimney and a memorial to remind us of the coal that was discovered here in 1753. The town hall, a former castle with a moat, was first mentioned in 1462. The owner was a certain Balthasar von Wartenberg. The local council bought the house in 1831 and it has been used as the town hall ever since 1912.
