Town Museum / Museum of Mycology in Hornberg
The Black Forest Museum of Mycology was opened in 1962 and shows lifelike models of wild mushrooms. This led to the unique School of Mycology and Environmental Protection being formed. You have the opportunity of comparing models to the real thing and to receive information on gathering and eating mushrooms. Courses, classes and scientific events are held to study botany and mycology.
1st July - 10th October, Mondays 9.00 - 10.00 a.m. and Fridays 6.00 - 6.30 p.m.
(free advice given).
Visit and information on mycology (2.50 Euros entrance fee).
The exhibition in the Town Museum is divided into three categories:
History, customs and handicrafts. Special reference is made to the collection of prehistoric finds from neolithic and pre-Christian times, the exhibition showing tableware with the story of Hornberg on it from the old stoneware factory and the study of Dr. Wilhelm Hausen-stein, author and freeman of the town of Hornberg, which has the original furnishings in it. There are also farming implements on show from the olden days.
Opening hours:
April to September every first Wednesday, second Sunday and third Saturday in the month from 2.00 p.m. - 4.30 p.m. Closed October to March.
