“Schenkenburg” Castle Ruins near Schenkenzell
This former castle is the landmark of Schenkenzell; the seat of the “Schenken von Celle” (1244). It is one of the oldest castles in the Kinzig Valley.
The castle became the property of the Fuerstenbergs as from 1500 and was destroyed in 1534. It used to be a Norman castle, a watchtower and keep. Unfortunately it was never rebuilt.
