Historic Town Centre Wolfach
The heart of the town centre with its high street, which was designed as a market square when the town was founded, still beats as it did years ago: Cobbled streets, water running through the town itself and the town well all go to create a certain atmosphere. Numerous restaurants, cafés and public houses with shady beer gardens invite you to stop for a refreshing drink and a bite to eat.
The market square in Wolfach and the palace building and grounds create a beautiful background for the numerous events that are held in Wolfach during the year. There are traditional evenings, concerts or the nightwatchman on his rounds – all fascinating experiences. The Lawrence Church, which is more than 500 years old, and St. Jacob’s Chapel with its idyllic setting, are both well worth a visit.

The front of the building is made of sandstone and the frescos you can see are the work of Eduard Trautwein, a local artist. The interior of the building was completely altered in 1990/91 to house a modern administration. The former covered market on the ground floor is now where you will find the Tourist Information Office.
